Dr. Swayamsiddha Kar teaches topics in Organic Chemistry and Spectroscopy. Along with teaching, he is passionately involved in research activities. He graduated with a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Chemistry in the year 2013, followed by M.Sc. in Chemistry from Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning in 2015. He then obtained his doctorate at the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning under the supervision of Prof. Nageswara Rao Golakoti, in the year 2020.
He has worked as an intern under Dr. Srinivas Oruganti, Director, Dr. Reddy’s Institute of Life Sciences, Hyderabad, and Dr. Srinivas Nanduri, Professor, Department of Chemical Sciences at NIPER Hyderabad. He has also been trained in NMR by Prof. Shinya Ohki, at Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) under the Sakura Science exchange program conducted by the JST (Japan Science and Technology Agency) in 2019. He is currently an Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemistry.
His research work is primarily focused on the synthesis and semi-synthesis of organic compounds and he has a good working knowledge of various instruments like NMR, GC-MS, LC-MS, HPLC, etc. The research work carried out in the field of the spiro-compounds has led him to file two Patents:
Spirobibenzopyrans and Analogues as Multitherapeutic Agents
Indian patent: IN 357756, granted
International patent: WO/2018/229665, published
Areas of Teaching
Organic and Bio-organic Chemistry, Natural Products, Spectroscopy, Medicinal Chemistry
Research Interests
Design and synthesis of novel synthetic and semi-synthetic compounds with potential biological and medicinal applications like anticancer, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory properties. Structural elucidation of complex organic molecules and natural products using spectroscopic techniques. Various applications of NMR (1D and 2D) including compound detection, purity analysis, peptide and protein structure studies
