Dr. K N Naresh has expertise in protein purification and characterization. He studies the structural and functional aspects of proteins towards their biotechnological applications. He makes use of both in vitro and in silico methods to achieve his objectives. He has pioneered in fabrication of hemocyanin-based prototypic optical biosensor to detect aqueous diphenols. Further, using molecular dynamics simulations, he pioneered in unravelling the mechanism of SDS-induced activation of molluscan oxygen carrier protein viz., hemocyanin to moonlight as phenoloxidase. His recent publication in Optical Materials (doi: 10.1016/j.optmat.2019.05.041) alludes to his involvement in leveraging cross-disciplinary approaches to develop enzyme-based biosensors that are highly specific and sensitive.
Dr. Naresh graduated with both his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees at Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning. He also received his Doctoral Degree in Biosciences, in the year 2015 from SSSIHL. Following this, he worked as a Research Associate in the DBT-sponsored Bioinformatics Infrastructural Facility at the Dept. of Biosciences of the Institute. During this period, he had an opportunity to lead a team of research scholars that visited Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) as part of SAKURA student exchange program in July 2017. In June 2019, Dr. Naresh joined as a teacher at the Dept. of Biosciences, SSSIHL.
