Born in an agricultural family in the Krishna District of Andhra Pradesh, Justice N.V Ramana enrolled as an Advocate in 1983 and practiced in the High Court of Andhra Pradesh, Central and Andhra Pradesh Administrative Tribunals, and the Supreme Court of India in Civil, Criminal, Constitutional, Labour, Service, and Election matters. Before being Elevated as a Judge, Supreme Court of India on 17.02.2014, he held several prominent positions including the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, Acting Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court, and a permanent Judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, in addition to the role of the Additional Advocate General of Andhra Pradesh. Justice Ramana was appointed as the 48th Chief Justice of India by the President of India on 6 April 2021. He took Oath on 24 April 2021.
The event began at 9:10 a.m. when the Chief Guest along with the Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, Controller of Examinations, Members of the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning Trust, the Board of Management, Academic Council, Deans, HoDs and other distinguished delegates, entered the Poornachandra Auditorium in Prasanthi Nilayam with the Registrar of the University carrying the ceremonial mace.
Following the invocatory Veda chanting from Taittriya Upanishad, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) C B Sanjeevi prayed to the Revered Founder Chancellor to declare the convocation open. The Convocation was then declared open in the Divine voice of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba.
Speaking on the occasion, the Vice- Chancellor gave a glimpse into the high-quality research for societal benefit done leveraging the world-class Central Research Instruments Facility (CRIF) and the Central Research Laboratory (CRL) at SSSIHL. He said it was a proud moment for SSSIHL, when the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), approved the ‘SAIC-19 AgKit’ Rapid Antigen Test Kit for COVID-19 in February 2021, that was developed by SSSIHL, making us the only academic institution to have received the approval in that category. Patented in the name of SSSIHL, the ‘SAIC-19 AgKit’ is now aiming for US-FDA approval, he added. On the Innovation side, he said SSSIHL is pursuing over 30 projects with ‘Technology Readiness Level’ of 5 or more, in (a) Healthcare, (b) critical Public goods & services, (c) Food & Nutrition, (d) Cyber Security applications and (e) Insurance.
The Vice-Chancellor then highlighted various international collaborative research projects with bilateral funding opportunities under Indo-Swedish, Indo-Italian, Indo-Australian, Indo-Canadian, and Indo-US programs. He also reported two such recent collaborations, one with Uppsala University in Sweden and the other with Macquarie University, Australia and University of Maryland Baltimore County, USA. He then went on to congratulate the faculty and students for the various academic achievements won by them for their work in their respective field of study.
He concluded by fondly remembering the Revered Founder Chancellor Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s prophetic statement “The seed has been planted; it will sprout and spread, heavy with fruits, providing shade, security and sustenance to all”, from His Discourse during the inauguration of the College Building of the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning, Anantapur Campus 50 year ago, praying that He continues to guide us to take His noble Mission to greater heights as envisioned by Him.
The convocation oath was then administered by the Vice-Chancellor, after which the Gold Medallists of the Institute were awarded by the Chief Justice of India, Hon’ble Justice N V Ramana. In addition to Gold Medallists, the doctoral research scholars were conferred their Ph.D. degrees by the Chancellor and given special mementos blessed by Founder Chancellor Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba.
The Chief Justice of India, Hon’ble Justice N V Ramana in his Convocation address to the students, said education is much more than academic learning, and that true education helps imbibe the moral values and virtues of humility, discipline, selflessness, compassion, tolerance, forgiveness, and mutual respect. And that it helps elevate our character and broaden our thinking, enabling us to take the right decision when faced with complex challenges in life. Students of SSSIHL are fortunate to have Baba’s philosophy enshrined at the centre of their curriculum which believes that the ‘End of Education is Character’.
SSSIHL he said was built around the concept of a modern Gurukula, where cutting edge modern education is being offered along with the essence of Indian Culture, values, and lifestyle is inculcated in the students ensuring all-round development, mental fortitude, and a sense of social responsibility, which he said was, unfortunately lacking in the modern education being offered today.
Exhorting students to look beyond their own needs, he emphasized on their responsibility towards enriching society, by propagating knowledge and empowering people and communities around them to usher in a progressive world free of conflicts and violence. He concluded by reminding the students of their pledge where they promised to support the cause of sound learning, humanity, morality, and spirituality and urged them to uphold their oath in life.
The graduates were then blessed with the Divine Benediction by our Revered Founder Chancellor, Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba Baba who addressed the students as ‘Emancipators and Patrons of education’. Baba then spoke on how true education can prepare a student for life, and not merely to earn a living. Likewise, the true meaning of ‘Educare’ imparted to students at SSSIHL He said was ‘to bring out that which is latent or hidden in us’ and asked the students to try to bring out the ‘Divine feelings’ hidden within and make it the second wheel of the chariot of life, the first being worldly education.
The event concluded with the National Anthem and Mangala Aarati.
As part of the 40th convocation, a Drama entitled “Wind Beneath My Wings” will also be streamed on the Prasanthi Mandir Live channel of YouTube, at 7pm later this evening. The Drama entitled- Wind Beneath My Wings is a story of a day in the life of a tiny bird that is all set to take its first leap of faith for a graceful flight unto a wonderful realization

Celebrating 50 Golden years of Educare for Women
July 8, 1971
Fifty years have gone by. It is the golden jubilee of the College Building of the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning, Anantapur Campus. The Sri Sathya Sai Arts and Science College (for Women), Anantapur, was founded by our beloved Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba on 8th July, 1971. The then President of India, Sri. V V Giri, and Smt. Saraswati Giri, inaugurated the College Buildings in the Divine presence of Bhagawan Baba.
Video of Bhagawan inaugurating Anantpur College: https://youtu.be/WKd92UBHFGE
Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s aim in starting a women’s college first, in the chain of educational institutions founded by Him, was to emphasise that, if a woman is educated, the entire family benefits from her knowledge and wisdom. She plays an important role in moulding the future generations of the family into responsible citizens. While inaugurating the College Buildings, Bhagawan Baba declared that the College would soon be transformed into a Deemed University. He said, “The Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning will have to undertake the task of revitalising the ancient culture of India and training the rising generation on the path of love and service to humanity.“
This is a unique institution that is a pioneer in providing “Educare” – a system of education that blends secular knowledge with spiritual knowledge. The Institute offers education free of cost. It seeks to provide an integral education that enables the full blossoming of the personality of the students.

Annual Sports & Cultural Meet (Prize Distribution Ceremony) – 15 January
11-15 January 2020
The Sri Sathya Sai Educational Institutions held the main event of the Annual Sports & Cultural Meet on 11 January 2020 at Sri Sathya Sai Hill View Stadium, Prasanthi Nilayam, Andhra Pradesh, India.
The event is a culmination of various sports, cultural and fine arts competitions held at all campuses of the University and other Sai educational institutions throughout the academic year. The Sri Sathya Sai educational institutions include all the four campuses of Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning, Sri Sathya Sai Primary and Higher Secondary School, Smt. Eswaramma High School and Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences (SSSIHMS) College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences.
It showcases an array of physical and cultural presentations by over 3000 students of the institutions spread across two sessions, morning and evening. Preparations, which began a month in advance, involved hundreds of practice hours by all students and teachers at each institution.
Process over outcome
The Annual Sports & Cultural Meet brings to the fore several qualities of human excellence in students. With only a few weeks to perfect their presentations, and with academics and other daily pursuits, students have to make every minute of preparation count. Very quickly, students need to have clarity of their outcomes, work in teams with unity (often with colleagues they have never worked with before), surmount the mental and physical obstacles that may seem impossible, and so on.
All this is accomplished on a shoestring budget that leaves the teams to make their final props and other event items with available and existing resources at the hostel. It not only helps them be thrifty, but forces them to think out of the box and bring in an element of creativity that challenges their current model of the world and pushes their comfort zones.
This process is one of several ways through which the conscious experiment of man-making and character building at Sai educational institutions truly succeeds. It prepares SSSIHL students to navigate the toughest of situations without sacrificing their values. At the same time, it helps build strong inner qualities such as a sense of unity and teamwork, determination, discipline and hard work.
The cherry on the cake, however, is the immense love students have for Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, their Divine Master. For Sai students, the entire gamut of the Annual Sports and Cultural Meet boils down to this singular focus. Bhagawan Baba—with His Divine vision—reciprocates this and makes sure that these pure feelings of Love are translated into the pursuit of excellence in every facet of the students’ evolution.
As He often said, The End of Culture is Perfection

Annual Convocation Drama
Each year on the day of the Annual convocation, students of Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning put together a drama presentation in the Divine Presence. This year, the drama, titled Hum Chalein teri Roshani se, explored the grey areas of major decision points all of us face in life. The ones that ask us to choose between what is right and what is wrong.
The drama explored this juxtaposition perfectly through the context of a consulting firm where one person’s principles helped pave the way for right choices of many a fellow journeyman. This person, Roshan Damodar Salve, an investment banker at FinVest Ltd., time and again chose gratitude over gratification by refusing to give in to the expectations of the crowd and pave his own reality, vested in his inner truth.
It highlighted the fact that If our heart knows how to act in a situation and we must choose the right path, we will garner the courage, the right mindset and channelize the inner wisdom that will lead us on the path of dharma or right action.
Perhaps it’s time we truly honour the age-old adage: the only way to lead is by example. If we do that, we never know what pertinent message Roshan’s life might hold for us!
Prasanthi Vidwan Mahasabha – 2019
2-8 October 2019
Dasara or Navaratri is a ten-day festival, usually falling in the month of October, and is celebrated all over India in the worship of the Divine as the Mother principle. Since the early sixties, the festival of Dasara in Prasanthi Nilayam has been closely associated with the Veda Purusha Saptaha Jnana Yagna. This yagnam is a week-long worship conducted in the Divine Presence in the Poornachandra Auditorium in Prasanthi Nilayam each year for the welfare of the whole world. The yagnam commences on the fourth day of Dasara and concludes with the Poornahuti – the final oblation that is offered on Vijayadasami, the tenth day.
In addition to other rituals, the most important component of the yagnam is the Rudra yagam where the oblations are made in the Yagna Kunda to Lord Shiva while chanting hymns from the Sri Rudram. The students of Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning take active part by chanting the vedas, reading the scriptures and performing other parts of the worship along with the learned pundits.
The evening programmes during the seven days of the yagnam are held in Sai Kulwant Hall, under the auspices of the ‘Prasanthi Vidwan Mahasabha’, where many speakers—primarily students and functionaries of Bhagawan’s educational institutions—address the gathering on topics concerning spirituality and philosophy, Bhagawan’s teachings and experiences of devotees.
Summer Course in Indian Culture & Spirituality – 2019
Man can make genuine progress only when the idea that education is for earning a living is given up. Only one who realises this truth is a truly educated person. Knowledge does not mean mere booklore. It is not the transference of the contents of books to the brain.
Education is intended for the transformation of the heart. Man today is proud about the little knowledge he has acquired about the physical world and boasts that he knows all about the universe. True knowledge is that which establishes harmony and synthesis between science on the one hand and spirituality and ethics on the other. Man, therefore, should at the outset determine the true value of education.
This will be a Gurukula – a place where teachers and taught will grow together in love and wisdom – and like the ancient system of education, it will develop in its students a broad outlook and promote virtues and morals, which serve to foster noble ideals in society.
This Institute will be a temple of learning where youth are shaped into self-reliant, contented and enterprising heroes of action and self-sacrifice, for the purpose of serving humanity.
