
Talk by Dr. V. Mohan: “Lessons Learned from the Epidemiology of Diabetes in Indians”

Mohan, one of India’s foremost experts in diabetology, for an enlightening talk on “Lessons Learned from the Epidemiology of Diabetes in Indians” at the Sai Hira Global Convention Centre, Prasanthi Nilayam, at 2 p.m. Monday, 24 February 2025
Dr. Mohan is the Chairman and Chief of Diabetology at Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre, an IDF Centre of Excellence in Diabetes Care, and Chairman of the Madras Diabetes Research Foundation, Asia’s largest stand-alone diabetes research center. With a vast network of 50 diabetes centers across 8 states and a patient base exceeding 540,000 registered diabetes cases, Dr. Mohan has been at the forefront of diabetes care, research, and education in India.
A prolific researcher, he has authored over 1,751 papers in peer-reviewed journals, with more than 215,000 citations and an h-index of 157. His contributions have placed him among the Top 2% of Scientists in the World, as ranked by Stanford University, and among the top 0.1% of global researchers in Type 2 Diabetes (Expertscape).
In 2024, Dr. Mohan was honored with the prestigious Kelly West Award for Outstanding Achievement in Epidemiology by the American Diabetes Association, delivering the Kelly West Lecture 2024 on “Lessons Learned from the Epidemiology of Diabetes in South Asians.”
With a distinguished career spanning decades, Dr. Mohan has been instrumental in training numerous physicians, diabetologists, and healthcare professionals. He has received over 180 prestigious awards, including the Padma Shri (2012), the Dr. B.C. Roy National Award, and the Dr. Harold Rifkin Distinguished International Service Award by the American Diabetes Association—the first Indian to receive this honor. Recently, he was conferred the Fellowship of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (FRSE).
Beyond his medical contributions, Dr. Mohan is deeply associated with service-oriented initiatives and is a Member of the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning (PCT) and the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust.
