S ince the inception of the Sri Sathya Sai College for Women in Anantapur in 1968 and the Sri Sathya Sai College for Men at Brindavan in 1971 and the subsequent formation of the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning in 1981, over 10,000 alumni have graduated from the portals of the University. These Alumni, while being professionally engaged in different parts of the world, continue to maintain their link with the University and are contributing substantially to society. The Alumni participate in various service activities in the field of Integral Education, Medicine, Village Upliftment (Grama Seva) and other areas.
Alumni professionally work as academicians, doctors, nurses, paramedical professionals, engineers, scientists, lawyers, chartered accountants, businessmen, management professionals, administrators (Indian Administrative Service), artists, musicians, dancers, agriculturists, consultants, airline pilots, state and central government employees, personnel in the armed forces and the merchant navy.
Impact of SSSIHL on its Alumni
One often asks the valid question that with so much effort and emphasis on integral education at SSSIHL, what real impact has it had on the daily lives of its alumni?
The ceaseless efforts and Love of the Revered Founder Chancellor over the years, the dedication of hundreds of teachers and senior students, the hard work by administrators and other staff of the university…all of these combined over three long decades have had a visible impact on the lives of thousands of students who have graduated from the portals of Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning.
Whilst at the University, the Educare system was designed to ingrain a balanced outlook in students, which is provided by the interface between the three components of Head (knowledge), Hands (skill) and Heart (balance).
To gain an accurate understanding of the impact SSSIHL has had on graduates, a substantial survey of 745 alumni was conducted by the University in the last decade. It was aptly titled SSSIHL Alumni Impact Analysis Study.
The impact of the alumni of Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning was analyzed across the three dimensions mentioned below.
Alumni have been employed in a wide range of industries: Banking, Finance and Insurance, Consulting, Manufacturing, IT, Education, Research, Health Care and Telecommunication.
80% of alumni are involved in some seva / service activity or the other, either at the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations, International Sai organisation or others. Roles include Lead Bhajan Singers, Seva/Study Circle/Village Service Programme Coordinators, Bal Vikas teachers, etc. They also lead medical camps, feed the hungry and poor and involve themselves in children welfare and rural development programmes.
At the core of the effort to bring about a change in the world lies the effort to transform oneself. A majority of Alumni said that love of and faith in God, positive thinking, contentment, forbearance, love for fellow beings, discrimination, patience and adaptability were among the main qualities they acquired while at the university. They expressed that lessons learnt rippled into each sphere of life and in turn touched all those with whom they came in contact.
Qualities such as patience, forbearance, adaptability, contentment and time management, acquired during their stay at their alma mater, have helped both home makers as well as those who work outside the home to achieve a fine work-life balance.
