The Department of Mathematics and Computer Sciences celebrated “National Mathematics Week” in honor of Srinivasa Ramanujan’s 136th birthday. The event aimed to commemorate Ramanujan’s legacy, raise awareness about Ancient Indian Mathematics, and promote general mathematical awareness.
The key events included a National Level Mathematics Quiz involving 25 schools, an exhibition on ancient Indian mathematics by undergraduate and postgraduate students, two talks by distinguished speakers Prof. Arni S. R. Srinivasa Rao on “Perspectives on Ancient Indian Mathematics,” and Dr. Shriram Chauthaiwale on “Some Innovative Indian Contributions in Mathematics”.
In addition, a National Level Art Contest, themed “Geometry in Nature,” engaged 96 children nationwide, with three winners selected. Throughout the week, undergraduate and postgraduate students delivered seminars on various mathematical topics and practical applications, providing insight into Ramanujan’s life and work.
The celebrations fostered enthusiasm, scholarly curiosity, and a renewed appreciation for India’s rich mathematical heritage. The event successfully laid the foundation for ongoing learning and discovery in the field.
